VISUAL CUES: an extra step for this lesson would be to ask students to attach a bobby pin with a picture of what 2 represents. For example, they can draw two cookies to show they understood the concept.
We loved this "iron chef" activity. It allowed us to use our creativity to create something out of specific materials given to us. We decided to use math as the lesson. We choose "skip counting" to be the lesson being learnt. We would distribute the egg cartons to students to decorate. This would be open-ended for them to do whatever they wish with. Once all the cartons are collected they will be used to skip count. The teacher will place numbers on the cartons and the students can use them to collaborate with their peers.

Guest Speaker Maria Ezcurra taught us to pay attention to labels. This allowed us to realize where the majority of our clothing is from, and she made us reflect on the working conditions in these areas. It really allowed us to imagine how others live in order to supple every day items we may take for granted.
We love our idea about incorporating bold text and colour to have an impact. By using red to diminish the N in MEN to make ME we wanted to show that women should want to feel and look beautiful for themselves. Women should not feel the need to impress or change themselves for men. All members of the group LOVED this activity. It really allowed all of us to analyze different images and try to create a meaningful piece. We believe it really made us think deeply about issues around the world and displayed them in unique ways. We believe the string technique was a great way of seeing the class come together. All class members came together to stick their own art piece. Each work was acknowledged! Great technique to use in the classroom one day!
It's amazing to see with one sheet of paper and one piece of art material how several ideas can come together to form a very creative piece.
